Tesco Exeter Vale and Brighouse

Project: Johnson Group have recently delivered two store extensions and associated internal re-configuration works for Tesco to accommodate further store improvement and enhanced offerings to customers.

The extensions were constructed at Exeter Vale and Brighouse within a twelve week construction period having been fast tracked to site utilising detailed key event tracking tools.

They were designed to provide extensive high level racking facilitating storage of goods up to four metres high to provide customers with an extensive choice of products from the stores catalogue. Goods can now be selected by customers using electronic stock checkers located strategically upon the store floor close to the new desk which would provide the point of sale position for this offering.

The challenge was to have the units constructed and operational prior to Tesco week 33 (11th October) to enable the units to be operationally assessed during the period running up to Christmas and to provide customers with an enhanced offering providing even more choice in already large and well appointed stores.

Johnson Group provided the programming function to marshal the design and engineering functions plus the co-ordination of specialist direct contractors engaged on the scheme. With collaborative working, the projects commenced in July this year and have recently completed to the satisfaction of the client.

As is the norm on fast track retail projects, all works were undertaken with the stores remaining fully operational with no services or range being diminished at any time during the construction and re-fit process
