Type of Project Re-furbishment and fit out.

Scope of Work Major demolitions and structural works were required to install 2 staircases and 2 lifts to serve a basement/stock/staff area and Parliamentary offices on the third floor above the shop. The ground floor was to be the main retail area. Staff accommodation was installed as well as stock rooms etc within the basement, a fully operational trading floor to the sales area and a state of the art office accommodation with full I.T. infrastructure to the third floor to be used by the parliamentarians who had relocated from Whitehall.

Challenges The main challenge was to overcome logistics. The location in the heart of London city centre caused difficult delivery problems. The student protest also has an effect on site works as the city was practically closed down for a period of five days, preventing access and egress of materials and machinery. The time was recovered by double shifting labour and increasing manpower.
