Apollonia Dental Practice
Project: Apollonia Dental Practice.
Contract duration: November to February (12 weeks).
Scope of works: Because of our previous experience with NHS works and our knowledge of high-spec healthcare projects, we were asked by our client to convert a building that had previously been used as a motor cycle repair shop and petrol station into a state-of-the-art dental practice with structural extensions and full fit-out including equipment. The accommodation comprises a reception area and five surgeries with a sterilisation room and staff welfare facilities.
Challenges: The site was contaminated with hydro-carbons from the previous PFS use and the removal of all waste had to be accommodated within the contract period. Planning restrictions stipulated that the works had to be contained within the original footprint meaning that highly innovative designs were required to incorporate the surgeries and office accommodation as required. In addition, because of the installation of X-ray equipment, many walls and doors had to be lead-lined to contain the radiation whilst remaining aesthetically pleasing.
