Co-op Food Store - Bingley

Project: The project involved a brand new development of a shopping centre in Bingley, where the main occupier was to be the Coop. The developer constructed the main building shell which is over 9,000 sq/ft in size, and was handed to Johnson Construction on 7th September 2009 in order to carry out a £1.4m fit-out. The Bingley store is a showpiece store for the Cooperative.

Contract duration: Overall Programme timescale – 13 weeks

Phase 1 works – 11 weeks

The full fit-out works including preparation of the building to receive fixtures and refrigeration. Works included laying a new terrazzo floor, full mechanical & electrical installation, HVAC works and creation of interior walls to the basement areas.

Phase 2 works – 2 weeks

We were responsible for the management of the supply and installation of the fixtures and fittings to the empty building.  This included refrigeration, shelving, kiosks and checkouts with all merchandising aids.

The Co-operative store features the consumer-owned retailer's new business identity, which aims to highlight improved service standards across its 5,300 outlets in the UK, including its travel, pharmacy, funerals and bank branches, as well as its commitment to supporting local communities and ethical trading policies.

The store offers contemporary décor, a spacious layout, ‘Access for All’ automatic doors, eco-refrigeration, self-service checkouts, an in-store bakery and deli counter. The emphasis is on fresh foods, with a wide range available including hot food.

It was opened by the Group Chief Executive Peter Marks who also lives in the local area. Mr Marks said “The Co-operative is committed to supporting and investing in the local communities where it trades and I am delighted shoppers in Bingley have a new Co-operative store offering such a marvellous shopping experience”.
