Khalid Contract

Project: Khalid Contract.

Contract duration: The value of the project was circa £2 million and it was completed in 22 weeks.

Scope of works: The Khalid contract comprised the construction of three new steel framed warehouses located on a brown field site in Cheetham Hill, Manchester. The site was extremely contaminated due to its previous use as a wagon depot and substantial diesel spillage over many years. Extensive ground stabilisation was undertaken with hydrocarbon contamination removed to Approved Disposal Sites. Short bored piles were driven to support reinforced pile caps and bolt clusters prior to the erection of the structural steel frame.

Challenges: Detailed and comprehensive neighbourhood plans were produced prior to work commencing to manage the expectations of a very busy and diverse industrial and commercial neighbourhood. Substantial problems were encountered when dealing with party wall issues and a great deal of negotiation was required to resolve the situation.
